What ReviewGuard does
ReviewGuard is a browser extension that reads the product reviews already rendered on an Amazon product page you are viewing, and computes a trust grade and summary using logic that runs entirely inside your browser. It has one single purpose: helping you judge whether the reviews on an Amazon product page look genuine.
Data collection
ReviewGuard does not collect, transmit, sell, or share any data — personal or otherwise. Specifically, it does not:
- Send any information to ReviewGuard's developer, or to any third-party server
- Use analytics, telemetry, crash reporting, or advertising SDKs of any kind
- Track your browsing history, search history, or activity outside of Amazon product pages
- Access, read, or store your name, email, payment information, location, or any other personal identifier
- Require sign-in, an account, or any form of registration
What ReviewGuard reads, and where it stays
When you open a supported Amazon product page, ReviewGuard's content script reads the review text already displayed on that page (rating, verified-purchase status, review text, date, and helpfulness votes) to compute a trust grade. This analysis happens locally in your browser using JavaScript that ships inside the extension — no review text or analysis result ever leaves your device.
The most recent analysis result is temporarily held in your browser's local session storage (chrome.storage.session) so the toolbar popup can display it. This storage is local to your browser, is automatically cleared when you close the tab, and is never transmitted anywhere.
Permissions this extension requests, and why
- storage — used only to temporarily hold the latest analysis result per tab, so the toolbar popup can show it. Nothing here ever leaves your browser.
- Host access to amazon.com and its regional equivalents (amazon.co.uk, .ca, .de, .in, .com.au) — needed so the extension can read the review content displayed on those pages. ReviewGuard does not request access to any other website.
ReviewGuard does not request broad permissions such as access to all websites, your browsing history, cookies, or the ability to read data on every site you visit.
Remote code
ReviewGuard does not download or execute any code from a remote server. Every script it runs ships inside the extension package you installed, and is reviewed as part of the Chrome Web Store submission.
Children's privacy
ReviewGuard does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children, because it does not collect information from anyone at all.
Changes to this policy
If ReviewGuard ever adds a feature that changes what data it collects or how (for example, an optional paid tier with cloud-synced history), this policy will be updated first, the update will be dated at the top of this page, and the change will be disclosed inside the extension itself before it takes effect.
